Center. Mark Williams. Pick Analysis. Fr.. player. 434. Scouting Report. 7-1, 225

No. 30 on the 247Sports 2020 Composite

The bad news is that IMG Academy (Fla.) four-star center Mark Williams will probably be the only Duke basketball player next season taller than 6-foot-9. The good news is the Virginia native — younger brother to Duke women’s basketball legend Elizabeth Williams — has soared up rankings during the past year and now appears to be quite the force on the low block (especially as a shot-blocker and as a rim-runner big).

More good news, at least as it applies to the Duke signee actually winding up on the next Duke basketball roster and staying happy, is the fact that Williams should literally have the opportunity to play as many minutes as he can handle without showing fatigue or getting into foul trouble.

Williams could use a few more pounds of muscle, primarily in his base. However, his instincts seem on-point, and there is no record of anyone questioning his effort or attitude.

So Williams, along with Baker, Brakefield, Coleman, O’Connell, Goldwire, Buckmire, Worthington, and Savarino, makes nine predicted 2020-21 pieces here so far. A few more to go (as the talent and athleticism now climb a notch)…
