Mike Krzyzewski announced on Monday afternoon that a Duke Basketball freshman will be out indefinitely as he is undergoing surgery on a broken bone in his hand.

Duke Basketball freshman Wendell Moore will be out for an indefinite amount of time as head coach Mike Krzyzewski announced that the forward will be undergoing surgery on a broken bone in his hand.

Krzyzewski said that Moore suffered the injury in Duke’s 33-point win over Miami on Saturday night.

In the win, Moore played 21 minutes off the bench and showed no noticeable signs of an injury throughout the game, nor was it mentioned by Coach K or any other players following the victory.

Against Miami, the North Carolina native scored six points on 3-of-7 shooting and recorded four rebounds and two assists.

The 6-foot-6 forward has played in all 14 games for the Blue Devils this season and is averaging 7.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.1 steals per game on 44.6 percent shooting from the floor and in recent games, Moore has appeared to turn a corner in his development and adjustment to the collegiate game.

Wendell Moore will have his surgery on Monday and Mike Krzyzewski said that the team will update his timetable following the surgery, which could come as early as Monday evening.

Moore will not be the first Blue Devil to miss games this season with an injury as freshman Cassius Stanley missed the road victory against Michigan State with a hamstring injury and sophomore point guard Tre Jones missed two games against Wofford and Brown with a foot sprain.

The typical timetable for hand surgery is approximately three or four weeks which could put Wendell Moore on track to return on Saturday, February 1 when Duke visits the Syracuse Orange.

Coach K said that Moore will not travel with the team to Atlanta this week as the No. 2 Blue Devils face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Wednesday with tipoff at 9:00pm EST.
