The Duke Basketball team picked up its first home ACC win of the season against the Boston College Eagles on Tuesday night and the Blue Devils rode the hot hand of a freshman to the victory.

Duke ended 2019 on Tuesday night with its 300th win of the decade, coming at the hands of the Boston College Eagles, 88-49.

The Blue Devils thoroughly dominated the Eagles from tip to buzzer and saw its former player, Derryck Thornton, have a very quiet day in his return to Cameron Indoor Stadium.

A major reason for his quiet showing was Duke’s point guard Tre Jones and his return to the floor.

Jones missed the last two games with a foot sprain but returned to action for the Blue Devils after not playing since December 6 due to the breaks for final exams and Christmas in the month.

In its 39-point victory, Duke only had two players reach double figures (Matthew Hurt and Wendell Moore) and its defense was able to force Boston College to turn the basketball over 19 times.

On the other side of the ball, Duke was excellent and efficient shooting the ball, making 35-of-68 from the field (51.5 percent) and 12-of-28 from 3-point range (42.9 percent).

On its 35 made field goals, the Blue Devils dished out 20 assists, ten coming from Tre Jones in just 24 minutes played in his return from injury.

Yet again, Duke played a sensation game in which every single player that received a minute scored at least three points, and for that reason this game will only be a ‘Stock Up’ article.

Duke improved to 12-1 on the season and 2-0 in ACC play after defeating Virginia Tech earlier in the season in the new conference scheduling format.

As the season continues, the game becomes more important and more competitive and that should be yet another measuring stick for the Blue Devils who have already seen themselves in big-time games and environments in the non-conference portion of the schedule.
