Bowl game dreams over as Duke shifts attention to final game of season
The dreams of reaching a bowl game are over for the Duke Football team and now the Blue Devils have to focus on the final game of the season.
It’s safe to say that any season you don’t reach the postseason is a disappointment.
However, in a sport where you need six wins to reach a bowl game and you win four of your first six and still don’t make the postseason, it’s that much more of a disappointment.

The bowl game dreams officially ended for the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday night as the Blue Devils fell to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
Saturday marked the fifth straight loss for Duke and entering the season many college football experts did not peg the Blue Devils to reach the postseason but after its hot start, Duke turned many of the doubters into believers.
Throughout the season, the Duke defense did its job for the most part, but as the season progressed and as the offense put together short drive after short drive, the defense broke, consistently being on the field.
This season will be the first time since 2016 in which the Duke Football program does not make a bowl game as the Blue Devils went 4-8 that season. With a loss against Miami on Saturday, Duke will be 4-8 this season as well.
The 2019 season will just be the second time Duke did not reach the post season since 2012 and under David Cutcliffe this will be the sixth time the Blue Devils are not in a bowl game.
For the fans that are calling for coaching changes, Duke only made an appearance in eight bowl games prior to the arrival of David Cutcliffe, that spans 1922-2007 and since Cutcliffe’s first season in 2008, Duke has been in six bowl games.
Duke will host the Miami Hurricanes to end the 2019 season at 3:30pm EST on ESPN2 as the Blue Devils look to end the disappointing 2019 season on a positive note.
