Javin DeLaurier

Javin DeLaurier has been on the stock down list too much in the early portion of this season, but Friday night might have been his worst game of the season by far.

DeLaurier picked up four fouls while only playing six minutes and missed both of his shots from the field.

The senior captain was in foul trouble all night, picking up two fouls within 30 seconds of checking in and when he did get in the game later, just didn’t look comfortable or have a feel due to his foul trouble.

DeLaurier split a pair at the free throw line and picked up four rebounds while recording a block on the evening, but did have two turnovers.

Javin DeLaurier will be a very important part to the 2019-20 Duke Blue Devils and despite his slow start to the season, expect him to turn things around soon and be a key into a deep run for Duke.

Cassius Stanley

It was bound to come eventually, but Cassius Stanley had his first bad game as a Duke Blue Devil, and the term ‘bad’ can be used very lightly.

The freshman sensation struggled from the field, only making 2-of-12 from the floor and going 1-of-4 from 3-point range.

Only totaling seven points on the night, Stanley played in a very mature way trying to impact the game in other ways since his shot wasn’t dropping.

Cassius Stanley added nine rebounds, two steals, and a block to Duke’s victory, but don’t expect the Los Angeles native to continue to have poor shooting nights as he has proven he’s always ready for the big moment.

Alex O’Connell

Alex O’Connell has also been a Blue Devils that has not had many bad outings to start the 2019-20 season, but Friday night was one of them.

O’Connell failed to score in the Duke win and only saw 12 minutes, the least of any member of the starting five.

The junior wing missed all three of his shots, two coming from 3-point range, but did manage to record four rebounds and an assist.

O’Connell’s minutes appeared to have been taken by Baker and Jack White due to the energy they brought as O’Connell looked just a bit slow on defense.

The progress Alex O’Connell showed from his sophomore year to his junior year has been incredible and one poor game won’t change that. Be on the lookout for a bounce back game from the junior in the near future.

Duke is poised for a jump from No. 2 to No. 1 in the latest Associated Press Top-25 Rankings to be released on Monday afternoon and the Blue Devils will face the California Golden Bears in the Opening Round of the 2K Empire Classic on Thursday, November 21 at Madison Square Garden with tipoff at approximately 9:30pm EST.
