Tre Jones

Tre Jones is arguably the best player on the Duke Blue Devils.

If someone were to argue for a different player, well I’m not sure they would win that argument so it’s safe to say he is the best player on Duke.

The sophomore captain point guard showed up in the biggest way on Friday night and perhaps has his best game in his Duke career.

Jones posted a career-high 31 points on 10-of-19 shooting and was 4-of-8 from 3-point range, in addition to his two rebounds, six assists, four steals, and one block.

If there was any questions about Tre Jones entering this season, it was could he win a game by himself?

We now have an answer; he can.

Vernon Carey Jr.

Coming off his first career colligate double-double, Vernon Carey Jr. posted his second career double-double as he went for 20 points and 14 rebounds.

To be frank, Georgia State didn’t have anyone that could guard Carey Jr. in the post and if it wasn’t for the hot shooting of Tre Jones, the freshman could have went for 40 points.

In addition to his insane output on the scoreboard and on the glass, Carey Jr. logged 34 minutes and racked up an assist, steal, and two blocks on 7-of-14 shooting.

The only part of Carey Jr.’s game that struggled was his free throw shooting where he was 6-of-11.

Vernon Carey Jr. is getting more and more comfortable and, as said before, that’s a scary sight for the rest of college basketball.

Joey Baker

Joey Baker, yes Joey Baker, gave Duke a spark off the bench that propelled the Blue Devils to the victory.

Baker saw 15 minutes coming off the bench and he was the third leading scorer behind Jones and Carey Jr. with eight points.

The sophomore was 3-of-6 from the field and 2-of-5 from 3-point range and one thunderous floor slap that lifted the Blue Devils and Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Duke fans have been waiting to see major production out of Joey Baker after his red shirt was burned last year, in still a head-scratching move, but this performance could be one major step in the positive direction.
