The Duke Basketball team is now at the top of the college basketball world as the Blue Devils were voted as the No. 1 team in the nation according to the latest AP Top-25 Poll.

It wasn’t as fast of a rise to the top of the college basketball world as last season, but the Duke Blue Devils are officially the No. 1 team in the country.

The latest edition of the Associated Press Top-25 Poll ranks the Blue Devils at No. 1 thanks to victories over Central Arkansas and Georgia State this week, coupled with the humiliating loss of former No. 1 Kentucky.

As Duke was in the midst of a 51-point rout of Central Arkansas on Tuesday night, the Kentucky Wildcats were in the process of losing at game at home to Evansville, a team that was projected to come in the bottom third of the Missouri Valley Conference.

The Blue Devils just needed to win on Friday night against Georgia State to secure that No. 1 ranking and although it wasn’t easy sophomore Tre Jones and freshman Vernon Carey Jr. led Duke to victory.

Right behind Duke in the Top-25 Poll are the Louisville Cardinals as the Michigan State Spartans, Kansas Jayhawks, and North Carolina Tar Heels round out the Top-5.

Kentucky dropped all the way to No. 9 after its loss.

This marks the second straight week the Blue Devils have moved up in the poll, after starting as the No. 4 team in the Preseason Poll, Duke rose to No. 2 last week after beating then No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks to open the season in the Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden, along with a win over Colorado State later in the opening week.

Duke will travel back up north to Madison Square Garden this week as the Blue Devils will take part in the 2K Empire Classic benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project on Thursday and Friday night in New York City.

The California Golden Bears, Georgetown Hoyas, and Texas Longhorns will accompany the Blue Devils to the World’s Most Famous Arena.
