Central Arkansas battle tested coming into Cameron Indoor Stadium

The Central Arkansas Bears are battle tested as they come into Cameron Indoor Stadium to face the Duke Basketball team on Tuesday night.

It’s not often that a team comes into Cameron Indoor Stadium during the second week of the season and the team is already battle tested.

Well that’s what is happening when the Central Arkansas Bears come to Durham on Tuesday night to face the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils.

In one week, the Bears have already played three games and despite being 1-2 on the season, Central Arkansas has challenged themselves going on the road to face Baylor and Georgetown, in which both of its losses game.

The one victory for the Bears came in the second game of the season when Central Arkansas took care of Hendrix College at home, winning 71-51.

In the first game of the college basketball season, Central Arkansa fell to then No. 16 Baylor 105-61 and then on Saturday the Bears lost to Georgetown, 89-78.

Russ Pennell is in his sixth season as the head coach of Central Arkansas and the Bears still have a daunting non-conference schedule after they leave Durham.

Before the Bears open up Southland Conference play, Central Arkansas still has to make trips to Wichita State, Utah, and Marquette.

Leading the way for the Bears this season has been Hayden Koval and Eddy Kayouloud who are both averaging a team-high 13.0 points per game.

Koval is a 7-foot sophomore center who also averages 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game and shoots 48.1% from the field and 45.5% from 3-point range.

Kayouloud is listed a 6-foot-7 and a guard who also leads the team in rebounds per game at 5.7 but only shoots 37.8% from the floor.

Kayouloud shares the lead in rebounds per game with Rylan Bergersen who also averages 5.7 rebounds per game in addition to 11.7 points for the 6-foot-6 guard.

Central Arkansas will try and use its size as it is not a great 3-point shooting team, only shooting 26.6% as a team, to pull off the monumental upset against the Duke Blue Devils in Cameron Indoor Stadium at 7:00pm EST and it will be televised on the ACC Network.
