Justin Robinson named Duke Basketball captain for 2019-20 season

The Duke Basketball team has a new captain as Mike Krzyzewski named Justin Robinson a captain for the 2019-20 season.

Days after Duke’s victory over the Kansas Jayhawks in the State Farm Champions Classic, head coach Mike Krzyzewski made an announcement that there will be one more captain on the team this year and it’s senior Justin Robinson.

Robinson is in his his final season at Duke as a Graduate Student and although he has not seen much action on the floor, he is constantly praised by his teammates for his contributions on the and off the floor.

The 6-foot-9 forward from San Antonio, Texas joins seniors Jack White and Javin DeLaurier as captains for the 2019-20 season in addition to sophomore point guard Tre Jones.

Mike Krzyzewski issued a statement on naming Justin Robinson a captain on Thursday night.

Justin Robinson did not see any action on Tuesday’s win over Kansas but in his Duke career he has seen the floor in 40 games over three seasons, averaging 1.1 points, 0.5 rebounds, and 0.3 blocks per game.

As a preferred walk-on to the Duke Basketball team in the 2016-17 season, Justin Robinson is the son of David “The Admiral” Robinson who is an NBA Hal of Famer with his outstanding career with the San Antonio Spurs.

Robinson also has a brother, Corey, who played football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish but ended his career after his junior season due to his third concussion and was voted as the Student Body President in his time in South Bend.

Justin Robinson’s two best games as a Blue Devil came in 2018 when he scored 13 points in a win over Stetson and ten points in a victory on the road against Pittsburgh.

The No. 4 Duke Blue Devils are back in action on Friday, November 8 against Colorado State as Justin Robinson looks to be on the floor in his first game as a captain and Duke will try to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Tipoff is slated for 7:00pm EST in Cameron Indoor Stadium with the game bring broadcasted on the ACC Network.
