The Brotherhood of the Duke Basketball team grew on Monday morning as 2021 five-star AJ Griffin committed to the Blue Devils.

The morning before the first game of the season and Adrian Griffin gave Mike Krzyzewski and the rest of the Blue Devils a great present.

Griffin announced his commitment to Duke on Monday, which seemed to come out of nowhere.

Duke was obviously in on the 2021 five-star wing, but the Stepinac High School product gave no indication that a decision was coming anytime soon.

The now newest Duke Blue Devil took to Twitter to share the news on Monday morning.

AJ Griffin is ranked No. 10 in the ESPN 60 Class of 2021 and No. 8 in the 247 Sports Composite Rankings and visited Duke in late October for Countdown to Craziness.

Griffin called Duke his “dream school” and as the first commit in the Class of 2021, Mike Krzyzewski will be looking to add some more of the top talent in the Class of 2021 to make yet another “dream class”.

The Blue Devils are in Manhattan for the State Farm Champions Classic on Tuesday night against the Kansas Jayhawks and the White Plains native could have decided that now was the perfect opportunity to tell Coach K his plans.

With the 6-foot-6 wing committing to the Blue Devils, the Duke vs. North Carolina rivalry will have a bit of a New York flare in the coming years as Griffin’s high school teammate, R.J. Davis, committed to the Tar Heels last month.

Davis is in the Class of 2020 and is a four-star recruit ranked No. 40 according to ESPN and No. 52 per 247 Sports.

A.J. Griffin also has an athletic lineage in his family as his father, Adrian Griffin, was a three-year starter at Seton Hall University and played with five NBA teams from 1999-2008. Griffin Sr. is now an Assistant Coach with the Toronto Raptors.

With A.J. Griffin already a Blue Devil, Duke is still in the hunt for high school juniors such as including Patrick Baldwin Jr., Max Christie, and Paolo Banchero, while still being involved with Jonathan Kuminga, the No. 1 overall player in the Class of 2021.
