The Duke Football team was embarrassed in a loss on Saturday afternoon against the Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville.

To be frank, it was an embarrassing performance from the Duke Football team on Saturday afternoon against the Virginia Cavaliers in a 48-14 loss.

The Blue Devils could have taken a lead on the ACC Coastal Division with a victory, but Duke forgot to show-up in Charlottesville.

Duke’s offense did not get across mid-field until the third quarter and it was in thanks to two fake punts, one unintentional and one intentional.

At one point in the third quarter, Duke’s punter, Austin Parker, was the team’s second leading rusher, only behind quarterback Quentin Harris.

Harris did not have his best game by any stretch of the imagination, completing 13-of-26 passes for 88 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Harris also fumbled twice and we benched in the fourth quarter.

The Duke defense tried to do all it could to keep the Blue Devils in the game, but consistently starting in its own territory and being on the field for a majority of the game, the unit wore down in the second half.

Virginia led 17-0 at halftime and a fumble on the first play of the second half set the Cavaliers up with excellent field position, but the Blue Devils held Virginia to a field goal, giving Duke a chance to stay in the game.

The only Duke score from the starting offense came on a 36-yard touchdown pass from Harris to Scott Bracey, which was set up on the two fake punts.

Chris Katrenick was able to connect with Eli Pancol for a 23-yard touchdown in the final quarter.

Duke cut the score to 27-7 in the third quarter, but Virginia ran the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown, killing any momentum the Blue Devils created.

The Blue Devils drop to 4-3 on the season and 2-2 in the ACC as the team travels to Chapel Hill next week to face the North Carolina Tar Heels on October 26 with a 4:00pm EST kickoff and the game being broadcasted on the ACC Network.
