The elite Vikings defense caused trouble for Jones all afternoon as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft completed just 21-of-38 passes for 182 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Jones also rushed three times for 12 yards.
Previous to Sunday’s game, Jones was 2-0 in his career as a starting quarterback in the NFL with wins over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Washington Redskins.
In his lone touchdown pass on the afternoon, Jones was able to find Darius Slayton for a 35-yard scoring play.
Daniel Jones got more weapons on the outside against the Vikings with the return of star wife receiver Golden Tate who missed the first four games of the season due to a suspension, but the Giants running backs took another hit on Sunday.
Already without Pro-Bowl running back Saquon Barkley, the Giants lost back-up running back Wayne Gallman due to a concussion against Minnesota, thrusting undrafted rookie running back Jonathan Hilliman into the feature back role.
Against the stout Vikings defensive line, Hilliman was unable to provide help for Jones, running for just 20 yards on nine carries.
Jones continued to look for his favorite targets in tight end Evan Engram and wide receiver Sterling Shepard as Engam caught six passes on 11 targets for 42 yards, while Shepard has five receptions on 10 targets and 49 yards.
Tate was targeted six times and caught three passes for 13 yards.
At 2-3 on the season, things do not get any easier for Daniel Jones and the New York Giants as the rookie quarterback will have his first short week of his career in playing on Thursday night.
The Giants will travel up for Foxboro to face the New England Patriots on October 10 at 8:20pm EST and the game can be seen on either FOX or NFL Network.
