Former Duke Basketball star Lance Thomas is no longer a New York Knick as the former Blue Devil inked a deal with the Brooklyn Nets.

People claim that Brooklyn is the hot spot to move to in New York and it also might be the hottest place on the east coast in the NBA world.

After surprisingly making the playoffs last season, all the Nets did in the offseason was sign free agents Kevin Durant, DeAndre Jordan, and former Duke Blue Devil Kyrie Irving.

More from Ball Durham

Add one more player to that list and it’s another former Duke Blue Devil in Lance Thomas.

Thomas will move from Manhattan to Brooklyn as the former Knick will look to bring his veteran leadership to the up-and-coming Nets.

Lance Thomas was a member of the New York Knicks since the 2014-15 season and prior to that he was with New Orleans Hornets, and Pelicans, as well as the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The 2010 National Champion went undrafted out of Duke, but has averaged 5.2 points and 2.6 rebounds per game in the NBA.

While in Durham, Thomas averaged 4.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in his four years at Duke and was also selected to the All-ACC Defensive Team in 2010.

Lance Thomas is a Brooklyn native, but signing with the Nets was a tough move for the veteran because he wanted to remain a Knick, but the team never offered the free agent a contract.

Thomas attended Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School as well as St. Benedict’s Prep in New Jersey.

The Knicks declined his player option in the offseason and the deal he signed with the Nets is a non-guaranteed contract.

Lance Thomas could earn a roster spot with the Brooklyn Nets for the early part of the season as fellow free agent signee, Wilson Chandler has been suspended for the first 25 games of the season for using Performance Enhancing Drugs.
