Former Duke Football quarterback Daniel Jones nearly had the best fantasy football performance for a quarterback making his first NFL start.

Fantasy football is one of the biggest phenomenons in today’s world and in his first NFL start, former Duke Football quarterback Daniel Jones almost broke the record for the most fantasy points in a starting debut.

Jones completed 23-of-36 passes for 336 yards with two passing touchdowns in addition to four rushes for 28 yards and two rushing touchdowns in the New York Giants’ 32-31 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

According to ESPN‘s standard fantasy football scoring, Jones posted 34.2 fantasy points, which was second among quarterbacks scoring in their first NFL start.

Jones only trailed Eric Hipple of the Detroit Lions in his first NFL start in 1981 with 42.7 fantasy points, despite fantasy football not existing during that time.

Hipple completed 14-of-25 passes for 336 yards and four touchdown passes in addition to four rushes for 13 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Like Jones, Eric Hipple also won his first NFL start as the Lions defeated the Chicago Bears, 48-17.

Despite Jones’ historic game against Tampa Bay on Sunday, he was not the Week 3 fantasy football leader as Seattle Seahawks’ Russel Wilson used a lopsided second half against the New Orleans Saints to throw the ball around the field and accumulate many points.

Wilson completed 32-of-50 passes for 406 yards and two touchdowns while netting 51 rushing yards on seven carries and also two rushing touchdowns in Seattle’s 33-27 loss to the Saints.

That performance gave Wilson 41.3 fantasy points for Week 3.

Daniel Jones will look to build off his first career NFL start, and victory, as he makes his MetLife Stadium debut on Sunday as the 1-2 New York Giants will host their NFC East rival, the 0-3 Washington Redskins.

It might be worth adding Daniel Jones to your fantasy football team as kickoff is scheduled for 1:00pm EST on Sunday, September 29 and the game can be seen on FOX.
