Former Duke Baseball star Marcus Stroman was able to throw a gem in Colorado against the Rockies to push the New York Mets closer to the National League Wild Card.

The New York Mets seem to be a long-shot to make the National League Playoffs, but former Duke Blue Devil Marcus Stroman pushed them a little closer on Tuesday night.

Stroman tossed seven shutout innings in Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies, an extremely famous hitters ballpark.

In just 95 pitches, the former Blue Devil scattered four hits and walked just one while striking out seven in the Mets’ 6-1 victory.

The Mets used a four-run sixth inning to open the game up thanks to home runs from Amed Rosario, Brandon Nimmo, and Pete Alonso.

Stroman moved to 3-2 on the season with his new team and dropped his ERA to 3.86.

At the plate, Stroman was 0-for-2 after grounding into a double play and grounding out to shortstop.

This season with the Mets and the Toronto Blue Jays, Stroman is 9-13 with a 3.21 ERA in 173 and two-thirds innings pitched.

The Medford, New York native was coming off an outing in which he only gave up one run in six and one-third innings pitched against the Arizona Diamondbacks on September 12.

With a win on Wednesday afternoon, the Mets were able to win the series against the Colorado Rockies, moving to 79-73 on the season and now sit three and a half games behind the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers for the second National League Wild Card spot.

The Mets have an elimination number of eight with ten games to play in the 2019 regular season.

Marcus Stroman is slated to get back on the mound for the New York Mets when the team returns home to Citi Field on Monday, September 23 against the Miami Marlins at 7:10pm EST.
