The New York Mets swept the Arizona Diamondbacks in the four game series thanks to a stellar effort from former Duke Baseball player Marcus Stroman on the mound.
The New York Mets are going to keep fighting until the very end as just as it looked like the team was on the brink of collapsing, they find another gear.
Coming into Thursday afternoon’s game with the Arizona Diamondbacks the Mets won the first three games of the series and were looking to inch close to the second National League Wild Card spot.

New York would turn to Marcus Stroman to try and get the sweep and the former Duke Blue Devil showed up in a big way.
After struggling in his last start against the Philadelphia Phillies, Stroman was his dominant self against the D-Backs, throwing six and one-third innings allowing just one run on four hits while walking four and striking out six.
Stroman was removed from the game in the seventh innings after allowing back-to-back walks and then an RBI double to Ildemaro Vargas.
Run support wasn’t an issue like it has been all season for Stroman as the Mets were able to score ten runs within the first five innings en route to an 11-1 victory and a four-game series sweep.
In his season with the Mets and the Toronto Blue Jays, Stroman improved to 8-13 with a 3.35 ERA.
The four wins were able to push the Mets closer to the Chicago Cubs who are now tied with the Milwaukee Brewers for the second Wild Card spot. New York trails both teams by two games.
The Mets are tied with the Philadelphia Phillies in the standings who are also looking to get back into the playoffs.
Marcus Stroman is slated to get back on the mound when the Mets head west to take on the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, September 17 at 8:40pm EST.
