Former Duke Football quarterback Daniel Jones will get his first career NFL start on Thursday night against the New England Patriots.

Daniel Jones is getting set to start his first career NFL game on Thursday night against the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots.

In Week 4 of the preseason, Jones will get the call under center as New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur announced on Sunday.

Despite his stellar preseason and the media trying to create a quarterback controversy, Eli Manning will be the starting quarterback for the Giants Week 1 of the regular season against the Dallas Cowboys.

The No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft has played at least one series in all three of the Giants preseason games.

Jones has ran away from his fellow First Round rookie quarterbacks this preseason as Jones has completed 83% of his passes (25-of-30) for a total of 369 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions, although he has lost two fumbles.

While no one ever knows how New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is going to play a game, it’s not typical for starters to play in the preseason finale but it will still be a major test for Jones to go up against the defensive mastermind.

Belichick has been known to give rookie quarterbacks a very hard time and while the schemes won’t be the same as to what New England is running in the regular season, Jones will have a battle on his hands.

Pat Shurmur did not say how long Daniel Jones would play in the preseason and as it appears that he is the clear-cut back-up quarterback for the Giants, it’d be safe to say the former Blue Devil doesn’t play more than one quarter.

The New York Giants will travel up to Foxborough, Massachusetts to face the New England Patriots in Gillette Stadium on Thursday, August 29 at 7:30pm EST and the game can be seen on NBC.
