In his past two starts with the Mets, Stroman had been on the hook for losses in both games, but New York was able to bail him out of both games as they would come from behind to win.
Thursday night in Atlanta would be a little different as the Mets gave Stroman as three run cushion in the 1st inning, followed by three more runs in the 2nd inning.
However, it was not all smooth sailing for the Medford, New York native.
After recording two quick outs in the bottom of the 1st, Stroman would then load the bases before recording a strikeout to end the Atlanta threat.
The Braves would load the bases in the 3rd inning with no body out, but Stroman would manage his way out of the inning only allowing one run.
Stroman exited the game after five and one-third innings, surrendering three runs, two earned, along with four hits and four walks. He struck out five in the game.
The Mets led 9-3 after the six innings, but the Braves would find a way to make things interesting, scoring four runs in the bottom of the 9th to cut the once 10-4 lead to just two runs.
Marcus Stroman was not only able to get things done on the mound Thursday, he made a contribution at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored in the win.
After a historic winning streak winning 16 of 18 games, the Mets had dropped three games in a row prior to Thursday’s victory.
New York currently holds a record of 62-59, but have fallen to two games behind the Chicago Cubs for the second National League Wild Card spot and trail the Braves by nine games for the National League East lead.
Marcus Stroman is schedule to get back on the mound on Wednesday, August 21 against the Cleveland Indians at Citi Field at 7:10pm EST.
