The Duke Football team has dealt with injuries in the past, but the Blue Devils will have to adjust its lineup earlier than expected due to injuries this year.

Training camp is a time to get your timing down as a team and to find the lineup that works well on the field together.

However, one of the negatives of camp is that there is always some time of injury that will derail your plans.

More from Ball Durham

Unfortunately for the Duke Blue Devils the injury bug has arrived in Durham a little earlier than expected.

Wide receiver Jake Bobo and quarterback Gunnar Holmberg both went down in practice last week and will miss extended period of time.

Head coach David Cutcliffe said that Holmberg suffered a knee injury in a scrimmage that will require surgery and will be out “indefinitely “.

Holmberg was in competition with Chris Katrenick to be the backup to starting quarterback Quentin Harris.

The red-shirt freshman had one rush in the 2018 season in the Walk-On’s Independence Bowl for 19 yards.

Jake Bobo is also out indefinitely as he suffered a fractured clavicle in practice.

The Duke Football program is no stranger to fractured clavicles as former quarterback Daniel Jones suffered the same injury last year and only missed two weeks, getting hurt on September 8 and returning to game action on September 29.

In his freshman season, Bobo caught ten passes for 167 yards and a touchdown and was a projected starter entering his sophomore season.

The Duke offense will now heavily lean on All-ACC running back Deon Jackson as well as key skill position players Brittain Brown, Aaron Young, and Noah Gray to be the top options for Harris in the fall.

Duke will need everyone healthy and ready to play as the Blue Devils take on the Alabama Crimson Tide on August 31 in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game from Atlanta, Georgia at 3:30pm EST and can be seen on ABC.
