Blue Devils, Tar Heels to put rivalry aside for a great cause
The Duke Basketball team and North Carolina Basketball team will put its fierce rivalry to the side for an afternoon to help raise money for a great cause.
The best and most fierce rivalry in college sports will be taking a short break on August 25.
The Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Tar Heels will team up to help raise money for cancer research in the 3rd Annual Hoop-A-Thon.

Teen Cancer America will sponsor the Hoop-A-Thon and fans can register to get some shots up in Cameron Indoor Stadium or in the Dean Smith Center.
Former Blue Devil and current Director of Basketball Operations Nolan Smith will lead the Duke team while former Tar Heel Brice Johnson will take charge for North Carolina.
Smith hosted the 2018 Hoop-A-Thon at Cameron Indoor Stadium where there were special appearances by players such as Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett, along with the rest of your favorite Blue Devils.
Johnson even strolled in to the hallowed halls of Cameron to try and promote his Tar Heels last year.

However, the Hoop-A-Thon will have a different twist this year. While all the money will go to an excellent cause, the Blue Devils and Tar Heels will be pinned against each other to see which team and fanbase can raise the most money.
Here is the 2019 Hoop-A-Thon video as Nolan Smith and Brice Johnson explain the new format.

If you do not live in the North Carolina area and cannot make it to Cameron, but you would still like to donate to Teen Cancer America, the Duke (Team Nolan) donation page can be found here.
Last year over $20,000 was raised and both schools have goals of $25,000 this year with Duke currently edging out North Carolina by just $525 with a long way to go to of reaching its goal.
Yes, the rivalry does take a back seat to a fundraiser for cancer research, but Duke fans need to come together and donate to raise more money than those Tar Heels!
