Former Duke Basketball legend Kyrie Irving released a new line of sneakers that feature the characters from the television show, SpongeBob SquarePants.

Many children love the television sit-com, SpongeBob SquarePants and apparently so does former Duke Basketball star and current Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving.

Irving debuted his new shoes two weeks ago and the sneakers are set to become available on Saturday, August 10.

Four sneakers will release featuring SpongeBob SquarePants, Squidward Tentacles, Patrick Star, Mr. Krabs, and Sandy Cheeks.

As a Team Nike member, Irving has released many shoes in the past, including several Duke versions, but the NBA All-Star has never ventured into designing the shoes to represent a specific topic or idea.

Kyrie Irving sat down with B/R Kicks to unveil each design.

The New Jersey native signed a deal with the Brooklyn Nets as NBA Free Agency opened for four years and $136 million.

Irving was drafted No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2011 NBA Draft and stayed with the team through the 2017 season, winning the 2016 NBA Finals, before being traded to the Boston Celtics.

Injuries ended the former Blue Devils first season in Boston and inconsistent team play ended the Celtics’ year in the Second Round of the NBA Playoffs.

Joining Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn is Kevin Durant but his status for the 2019-20 season is in doubt after rupturing his achilles in the 2019 NBA Finals while he was still on the Golden State Warriors.

It remains to be seen whether or not Kyrie Irving will wear these SpongeBob SquarePants edition shoes on the court, or if any other players around the NBA will wear them, but these shoes will definitely sell to the younger audience of basketball fans who look up to Irving as a role model and idolize SpongeBob at the same time.
