Class of 2020 five-star excludes Blue Devils from list of final five schools

A five-star recruit in the Class of 2020 did not include the Duke Basketball program in his final list of schools, something that’s surprising but not a complete shock.

In the span of about one week, two five-stars have dropped the Duke Blue Devils from their top schools.

On Saturday, B.J. Boston, the No. 10 player in the Class of 2020, committed to Kentucky over Duke and some other schools and now on Thursday, Cade Cunningham, the No. 2 player in the Class of 2020, did not include Duke in his final-five schools.

In dropping the Blue Devils, Cunningham narrowed his list to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Kentucky Wildcats, North Carolina Tar Heels, Florida Gators, and Washington Huskies.

While it is a surprise that Cunningham did not include Duke in his final list, he is very much expected to land in Stillwater, Oklahoma with the Cowboys after the school just hired his brother, Cannen, as an Assistant Coach.

Cade Cunningham says that he has not committed to Oklahoma State and he is still very much open to visiting his final five schools, many recruiting analysts and experts expect him to land in Stillwater, as his Crystal Ball on 247 Sports is currently at 100% for Oklahoma State.

Cunningham is a Texas native, who will be entering his senior year at Montverde Academy in Florida, the same high-school former Blue Devil R.J. Barrett attended and he will be playing for the same coach, Kevin Boyle, who produced former Dukies Barrett and Kyrie Irving, when the two were in New Jersey at St. Patrick’s High School.

Duke currently has two commits for the 2020 Class in Jalen Johnson and Jeremy Roach but are also trying to reel in Top-40 players like Walker Kessler, DJ Steward, Mark Williams, and Henry Coleman.

Barring a massive update of the 247 Sports’ Class of 2020 rankings, 2020-21 will be the second consecutive season Duke will not have a Top-3 recruit on its team as the highest ranked freshman this upcoming season, Vernon Carey Jr., was the No. 6 player in the 2019 class and Johnson is currently No. 4 in 2020.
