Five-Star guard Brandon Boston Jr. committed to the University of Kentucky on Saturday afternoon after the Duke Basketball program pulled back on its recruiting push.

It’s not often that Mike Krzyzewski and the Duke Basketball program get turned down by five-star recruits, but five-star guard Brandon Boston Jr. picked the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday.

Duke appeared to be the favorites to land Boston but pulled back on its recruiting efforts recently after landing Jalen Johnson to its 2020 class.

Johnson committed to Duke on July 4, joining Jeremy Roach as the Blue Devils’ two recruits Class of 2020 recruits.

Boston also recently announced that he will be joining Sierra Canyon High School for his senior season along with Ziaire Williams, LeBron James Jr., and Zaire Wade.

Also known as “BJ”, Boston is Kentucky’s lone recruit thus far in the 2020 class.

The California native took an official visit to Lexington on Thursday and the marriage appeared to already be set between Boston and John Calipari.

Ranked as the No. 10 player in the Class of 2020, Boston reportedly chose Kentucky over Duke, Auburn, Florida, and Oregon, with his crystal ball previously set at 75% to Kentucky, 12% to Oregon, and 12% combined with the other schools recruiting him.

With two recruits under his belt for next season, Mike Krzyzewski and the Blue Devils are the 247 Sports’ Crystal Ball favorites for Top-40 players such as Walker Kessler, DJ Steward, Mark Williams, and Henry Coleman.

Having Boston in Durham could have been a major bonus, but with current players possibly lined up to return in 2020-21 and the recruits that still could roll into Cameron Indoor Stadium, expect Duke to be fully reloaded.

So Duke missed out on a five-star recruit, so what?

Time to move on to the next one.
