Former Duke Football star quarterback Daniel Jones has agreed to terms on his rookie contract with the New York Giants just ahead of training camp.

Daniel Jones is now, officially, a NFL player as he and the New York Giants agreed to terms on his rookie contract Monday night, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

The Giants selected Jones with the No. 6 overall pick in the NFL Draft in April and the pick has received a lot of criticism from the media, fans, and other NFL personalities.

Jones started three seasons for the Blue Devils and for his career had a 59.9% completion rating along with 52 touchdowns and 29 interceptions with 8,201 total passing yards.

In his final season at Duke, Jones only played in 11 games, but had 2,674 total passing yards, a 60.5% completion percentage, 22 touchdowns, and nine interceptions and was named as the MVP of the Reese’s Senior Bowl.

SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano reports that he 6-foot-5 quarterback signed a four-year, $25.6 million deal with a $16.7 million signing bonus. There is also a team-option for the fifth year of Jones’ contract.

Last year, Giants rookie Saquon Barkley, the No. 2 overall pick, signed a four-year deal worth $31.2 million.

Agreeing on the deal just came in the knick of time as Jones was the last Giants rookie to sign his contract and rookies are scheduled to report to training camp on Tuesday morning.

While some are calling for Jones to start Week 1 for the Giants, Mike Garofolo of NFL Network has been reporting that the Giants are not holding an open quarterback competition and Eli Manning will be the starting quarterback Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys.

The New York Giants will hold its first full team workout on Thursday, in the first official practice of training camp.

Things will start to escalate quickly for Jones as the Giants will host the New York Jets, who still have not signed its first round pick, in its first of four preseason games on August 8.
