The former Duke Basketball freshman sensation, R.J. Barrett, went for his second straight double-double in the NBA Summer League, silencing more of the haters.

The R.J. Barrett slander is getting quieter and quieter as the NBA Summer League progresses.

Barrett went for his second straight double-double as the New York Knicks routed the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night in Las Vegas.

More from Ball Durham

About 24 hours removed from dropping 17 points and 10 rebounds against the Raptors, Barrett and the Knicks took the floor against the Purple and Gold and started the rout from the first quarter.

The No. 3 overall pick went for a Summer League career high 21 points in addition to 10 rebounds, three assists, and a steal with once again only one turnover in a team-high 29 minutes.

Barrett went 6-for-17 from the field and 2-for-8 from beyond the 3-point arc, but the former Blue Devil did make 7-of-10 from the free throw line in New York’s 117-96 victory.

All ten of the Canadian’s rebounds were on the defensive glass where he excels as he averaged 7.6 rebounds per game at Duke and 6.0 of those rebounds came defensively.

For the many fans that have been criticizing R.J. Barrett’s performances thus far, the future superstar is averaging 14.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game through his four games at the NBA Las Vegas Summer League.

However, if there is something that Barrett must work on it is his shot selection as he’s shooting just about 30% in his four games.

The Knicks, the favorites entering Las Vegas, now finish the NBA Summer League with a 1-3 record and still one consolation game remaining after not making the ‘postseason tournament’ as only the Top-8 teams do.

The time, date, opponent, and network have yet to be determined for New York’s consolation game with still some teams finishing up its ‘regular season’ games tomorrow afternoon and evening.
