Jabari Parker signs contract with Hawks, joining Cam Reddish in Atlanta

The former freshman star of the Duke Basketball program, Jabari Parker has agreed to a contract with the Atlanta Hawks.

After a mentally and physically challenging couple of years, Jabari Parker will look to regain his once stellar form with the Atlanta Hawks.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported on Monday afternoon that the former Blue Devil and the Atlanta Hawks have agreed on a contract.

After being the No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft of the Milwaukee Bucks, the former consensus All-American’s time in the NBA has been derailed by injuries and rehab.

The one thought of rising star in the NBA tore his left ACL 25 games into his rookie season in 2014-15, but had a quick and strong recovery to see the floor in 76 games in the following 2015-16 season.

Parker was finally becoming the star many had envisioned in his lone season at Duke, but tragedy struck again for the Chicago native as he once again tore his left ACL in the 2016-17 season, ending his campaign after just 51 games while averaging 20.1 points per game.

Another deviating injury would be no match for Parker who made his was back on the court for the Bucks in the 2017-18 season for 31 games.

As a restricted free agent, Jabari Parker’s hometown Chicago Bulls signed him to an offer sheet. The Bucks pulled back its qualifying offer to Parker and he became the newest member of the Bulls.

Wearing No. 2 for the Bulls, Parker played in 39 games, starting 17, for Chicago in the 2018-19 season before a mid-season trade sent him to the Washington Wizards alongside Bobby Portis in exchange for Otto Porter and a second-round draft pick.

Now in Washington, Parker averaged 15.0 points per game in 25 contest for the Wizards, but the team declined his $20 million option for the 2019-20 season, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Despite interest from Parker to return to the Nation’s Capital, Yahoo! SportsChris Haynes reported that the deal between Jabari Parker and the Atlanta Hawks is for two years and worth $13 million, with a player option for the second season.

Jabari Parker will now have the opportunity to team up with another former Blue Devil, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Cam Reddish.
