Quinn Cook will compete for another championship, signs with Lakers

Quinn Cook is the newest Los Angeles Laker after the former Duke Basketball standout made his decision very early on Saturday morning.

There’s nothing quite like red-alert, breaking NBA news at 2:00am EST.

Well, Kawhi Leonard made his decision late Friday night, or early Saturday morning, whichever way you want to look at it, and it send ripple affects throughout the NBA.

Leonard opted to go to Los Angles and join the Clippers, a team many thought was out of the running to land the most recent NBA Finals MVP.

While NBA Free Agency started with a bang on June 30, many players that had not signed as of July 2 were waiting to see what Leonard would decide to do before they made their own decision.

The Clippers’ in-arena rival, the Los Angeles Lakers did all they could to try and land Kawhi Leonard, trading valuable assets away and trying to clear the way for the superstar to come to the other side of LA.

Currently constructed, the Lakers were fielding a team of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kyle Kuzma, and Jared Dudley.

After the Kawhi news broke, the Lakers quickly had to move onto Plan-B and have signed Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Danny Green, JaVale McGee, and the former Golden State Warrior and NBA Champion, Quinn Cook.

Cook was a restricted free-agent to start this offseason, but the Warriors lifted the restricted tag on him, making him an unrestricted free agent with the ability to sign anywhere in the league.

Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes reported that Cook and the Lakers have agreed on a 2-year, $6 Million deal.

The 2018 NBA Champion averaged 6.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game this season for the Golden State Warriors in a total of 74 games, starting ten of them.

The National Champion as a Blue Devils also shot 46.5% from the field in the regular season and 40.5% from 3-point range.

While Quinn Cook is the only point guard on the Lakers roster right now, expect the proven winner to serve as the team’s back-up point guard after LA makes some more moves, rather quickly, in free agency.
