Jack White helps Australia out of group stage in World University Games
In the World University Games, Duke Basketball forward Jack White helped Team Australia reach the knockout rounds after dropping its first game.
It didn’t start out great for Team Australia at the World University Games after a 28-point loss to Team Israel, but the Aussies were able to kick it into next gear in the final two games of the group stage and find a spot in the knockout round.
In the first game against Israel, Duke Basketball senior forward Jack White struggled, like the rest of the team, with five points and six rebounds, while going 1-for-3 from the field and three-for-six from the free throw line.

It was a quick turnaround for the Australian Team as next up was Team Mexico, with both teams desperately needing a win to keep its hopes of advancing to the knockout stage alive.
The Australians looked like a completely different team, handing its business and then some against Mexico, winning 105-62 and White’s numbers were still low but he was much more efficient in the minutes he got.
The Blue Devil forward finished his afternoon with five points and five rebounds while shooting 2-for-3 from the field and sinking his lone 3-point attempt.
Game 3 in group play was a winner take all between Team Australia and Team Czech Republic. The winner would advance to the knockout round and the loser would go back to its respective country with a 1-2 record in group play.
Australia came out and threw the first punch and never looked back, cruising to a 88-59 win over the Czechs.
Jack White had his best game of the tournament against the Czech Republic, ending the night with eight points and eight rebounds on 3-of-4 shooting with one attempt and one make from 3-point range.
The only aspect of the game White struggled with was at the free throw line where he only made one of four shots.
Jack White will be entering his senior year in Durham in the fall and will be a two-time captain after serving as a captain along side Javin DeLaurier last season.
White averaged a career best 4.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game as a junior shooting only 35.9% from the field and struggling from 3-point range at 27.8%.
Team Australia will be facing Team Argentina in the Quarterfinals at 2:00pm EST on Monday, July 8 as the Duke Basketball captain will look to move on once again with his country at the World University Games.
