Gary Trent Jr. struggles to find his shot in 2019 Summer League debut

In his 2019 Las Vegas Summer League debut, former Duke Basketball sharpshooter Gary Trent Jr. struggled with his shot in the Portland Trail Blazers opening game defeat.

Gary Trent Jr. struggled from the field in his 2019 Las Vegas Summer League debut of the Portland Trail Blazers against the Detroit Pistons.

The two-year removed former Blue Devil scored ten points on 3-of-12 shooting from the field and 2-of-5 from 3-point range. in 23 minutes, while Trent Jr. did make both of his free throws in addition to grabbing two rebounds and dishing out an assist.

After splitting time between the G-League and the NBA, Trent Jr. only played in 15 games with the Portland Trail Blazers last season, starting one.

In the one start, the former Blue Devil scored a career high 19 points in the final game of the regular season, making 8-of-19 from the field but just 1-of-5 from 3-point range, while accumulating two rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a block.

A second round pick of the Sacramento Kings in the 2018 NBA Draft, Trent Jr. was sent to Portland in a draft night trade.

While in his lone season at Duke, the son of the ‘Shaq of the MAC‘, averaged 14.5 points per game on 41.5% shooting from the field and 40.2% shooting from 3-point range, although that has not carried over to the NBA as of yet.

In six games in the NBA G-League with the Texas Legends, the guard averaged 33.3 points per game on 50.4% shooting from the field and 50.0% shooting from 3-point range.

In those six games, Trent Jr. only scored under 30 points once, and that was in his G-League debut with his G-League high being in his finale in the league on February 1 with 39 points.

The defending champions of the Las Vegas Summer League, Portland Trail Blazers, will look get its first win in 2019 on Sunday, July 7, at 10:00pm EST against the Houston Rockets as the game can be seen on NBATV.
