The former Duke Basketball star and National Champion, Amile Jefferson, was having himself a nice night before the earthquake that rocked Vegas on Friday night suspended the game.

Well, I’m sure you’ve heard about the earthquake that hit the Los Angeles and Las Vegas regions by now, but one of the head-scratching things that happened after the earth shook was the continuation of the Orlando Magic vs. San Antonio Spurs game from the Cox Pavilion.

Just across the street, in the Thomas and Mack Center, play was quickly stopped between the New Orleans Pelicans and New York Knicks after the overhead scoreboards and speakers shook.

While there are no overhanging items in the Cox Pavilion, play continued as if nothing happened for quite a while and in that time, former Duke Basketball star Amile Jefferson was having a very nice game for the Orlando Magic.

Play was suspended after the third quarter, despite the earthquake happening early in the first half.

Jefferson came off the bench for the Magic and the former National Champion logged 15 minutes as Orlando was leading 75-59 before play was stopped.

The 6-foot-9 forward also had eight points, four rebounds, and two blocks on the evening, while making 2-of-4 shots from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line.

Amile Jefferson has been back and forth between the NBA and the G-League with the Orlando Magic and in 12 games in the NBA this season, the former Blue Devil averaged 2.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.

While no decisions have been made on the safety of the two arenas in Las Vegas and if the NBA will continue to hold its Summer League games at the Thomas and Mack Center and the Cox Pavilion, the Orlando Magic are scheduled to play again on Sunday, July 7, at 6:00pm EST against the Denver Nuggets on NBATV.
