After what looked to be a promising season Chicago Bulls rising star and the former Duke Basketball star freshman, Wendell Carter Jr. is going to miss the remainder of the summer due to a core muscle injury.

The No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Wendell Carter Jr., looked to be on track for a sensational rookie season but a thumb injury kept the rookie on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.

After Carter Jr. was getting ready to participate in the Chicago Bulls Summer League, the big man suffered a setback with a core muscle injury that will require surgery and obviously he will miss the remainder of the summer, according to K.C. Johnson of The Chicago Tribune.

More from Ball Durham

The Atlanta native averaged 10.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game in a total of 44 games last season.

According to the report, the Chicago Bulls expect Wendell Carter Jr. to be ready by training camp.

Carter Jr. will have surgery on Tuesday in Philadelphia by Dr. William Meyers who also performed the same surgery a few weeks ago on the No. 10 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and Carter’s fellow member of The Brotherhood, Cam Reddish.

Reddish also will not play in the Las Vegas Summer League with the Atlanta Hawks, but is also expected to be ready to be a full participant at training camp.

With the Chicago Bulls looking to get back to its once legendary and historic form, the team will need a healthy and explosive Wendell Carter Jr. to regain the form he showed in Durham and in the first half of his rookie season.

The NBA Las Vegas Summer League gets started on Friday July 5 with a plethora of former Blue Devils schedule to take the floor and showcase their abilities at the next level.
