The Duke Basketball superstar, Zion Williamson, grabbed another award as he has been named as the ACC’s Male Athlete of the Year.
It’s July and Zion Williamson is preparing to play in his first NBA Summer League game, but the most recent No. 1 overall pick is still bringing in college awards.
On Wednesday morning, Williamson was named as the ACC’s Male Athlete of the Year after his astonishing and incredible season on the basketball court for the Duke Blue Devils.

Zion led the Blue Devils by averaging 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 68.0% from the field as Duke won the ACC Tournament and earned an Elite 8 berth in the NCAA Tournament as well as the No. 1 overall seed in the field.
The consensus National Player of the Year becomes the16th Duke player to earn the award and first since football star Laken Tomlinson in 2015. Williamson also shares the honor with North Carolina’s Field Hockey star, Ashley Hoffman as the ACC Female Athlete of the Year.
The ACC Player and Freshman of the Year has seemed to run away with every award this but Williamson received 36 out of 82 votes with Clemson’s football star Christian Wilkins receiving 28 votes.
This season, Zion Williamson became the first freshman in ACC history to be a consensus First Team All-America, the ACC Player of the Year, and ACC Tournament MVP all in the same season.
In his incredible success and immeasurable potential this season at Duke, Williamson became the No. 1 overall selection in the 2019 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Pelicans on June 20.
As Zion Williamson now moves onto the professional portion of his career he and the New Orleans Pelicans will compete in the NBA Summer League starting on July 5 against his Duke teammate R.J. Barrett and the New York Knicks.
