The New Orleans Pelicans continue to add former Duke Basketball players to the squad by signing sharpshooter JJ Redick.

I believe we can now officially call them the New Orleans Blue Devils.

The people of New Orleans may have a problem with that but those who are fans and follow the Duke Blue Devils certainly will refer to the Pelicans that way.

More from Ball Durham

The latest Dukie to head down to Louisiana is the lethal shooter JJ Redick.

Redick joins No. 1 overall pick from a week ago, Zion Williamson, along with Brandon Ingram, Jahlil Okafor, and Frank Jackson in the Bayou in addition to the new General Manager of the team, Trajan Langdon.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Redick will sign a two-year, $26.5 million deal with New Orleans.

The veteran is coming off two seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers, where Redick helped lead the once powerhouse team back to the playoffs, despite exits in the Second Round of the playoffs in both seasons.

Redick will now look to help the Pelicans made the NBA Playoffs in a loaded Western Conference and will put his own streak on the line as the new 35-year old has made the playoffs in every season he has been in the NBA.

Over his career, Redick has averaged 12.9 points per game in addition to 2.0 rebound and 2.0 assists per game, but his shooting has been sensational, making 44.8% from the field and 41.3% from 3-point range.

However, since JJ Redick’s first season with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2013, the former Blue Devil has averaged over 15.0 points per game in each season, with his two highest totals coming in Philadelphia, 17.1 and 18.1, respectively.

With Redick’s signing in New Orleans, it’s very possible at some point this season, and even on multiple occasions, the Pelicans could have an all-Duke lineup on the floor with Jackson, Redick, Ingram, Williamson, and Okafor.

If that happens to be the case, expect the ratings in Durham for Pelicans games to be through the roof.
