The New Orleans Pelicans have hired former Duke Basketball standout Trajan Langdon as its new General Manager.

The team with the No. 1 overall pick looked in a similar direction to fill its hole at General Manager.

David Griffin, the Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations for the New Orleans Pelicans, hired Trajan Langdon as his General Manager on Saturday afternoon.

The team also won the NBA Draft lottery last week and all signs point to the Pelicans selecting the superstar out of Duke, Zion Williamson.

Langdon played at Duke from 1994 through 1999 and was the No. 11 overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The former 6-foot-4 guard was a there time First Team All-ACC player, a consensus second team All-American in 1999 and a second team All-American in 1998, Langdon averaged 14.4 points per game in his year in Durham, shooting 45.1% from the field and 42.6% from 3-point range.

The Alaska native was Duke’s all-time career leader in 3-pointers made at 342 shots, but that record was broken once J.J. Redick arrived in Durham.

Langdon’s player career ended in the NBA in 2002, but the former Blue Devil then went on to play overseas where he quickly became a superstar.

In 1998, Langdon played with the United States Men’s National Team in the FIBA World Cup when the team won the bronze medal.

After his days on the court ended, Trajan Langdon began another career in basketball, becoming a scout from the San Antonio Spurs from 2012 to 2015. From 2016 to the present day Langdon serves as the Assistant General Manager of the Brooklyn Nets.

Trajan Langdon was named as the NBA G-League Executive of the Year last season, after the Nets’ G-League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, were one of the top teams in the league last season and made an appearance in the G-League Finals.
