Duke Basketball: Zion Williamson graces the cover of SLAM Magazine

The Duke Basketball superstar Zion Williamson is back in the spotlight after being the cover athlete for SLAM Magazine this month.

As if the world didn’t see enough of the all-world, all-class superstar that is Zion Williamson, the Duke standout is now on the cover of SLAM Magazine.

Williamson made the announcement on his Instagram on Monday afternoon.

However, this is not the first time Williamson has been on the cover of SLAM, he was also on the cover during his high school days at Spartanburg Day School as he was an emerging viral sensation and future superstar.

Zion Williamson is the projected No. 1 overall pick in June’s 2019 NBA Draft and with the NBA Draft Lottery taking place on Tuesday, May 14, all eyes focus to who will win what has been called ‘The Zion Lottery’.

Williamson and his family will be in attendance on Tuesday night according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

The 6-foot-7 freshman swept all of the National Player of the Years after his lone season in Durham while averaging 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game, while shooting 68.0% from the field.

Zion Williamson is not the first Duke Blue Devil to be featured on the cover of SLAM Magazine as his teammate, R.J. Barrett, was on the cover for the October issue. Jabari Parker and Marvin Bagley III were the only other athletes to be feature on the cover during their time at Duke, but former Blue Devils that have been on the cover include Jayson Tatum and Kyrie Irving, who was featured twice.

The NBA workouts and team visits will start to heat up for Zion Williamson in just a few weeks as the Draft Lottery is set for May 14, the NBA Combine is slated to start on May 15 and run through May 19, which team workouts starting shortly after that leading up until the NBA Draft on June 20.
