The Duke Lacrosse team is headed to the NCAA Tournament with the No. 2 seed in the tournament starting this weekend.

Despite not winning its conference tournament, the Duke Blue Devils are the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament.

The tournament starts this weekend and Duke will play Richmond in the First Round on Sunday, May 12, at 5:00pm ET on ESPNU.

The Blue Devils ended the season with an 11-4 record, falling in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who fell to the Virginia Cavaliers in the ACC Championship.

Duke could have a potential rematch with the Irish in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament should both teams advance. The Blue Devils also beat Notre Dame in the regular season.

Notre Dame earned the No. 7 seed and will play Johns Hopkins on Sunday evening.

Sunday will be the second time Duke has faced Richmond this season with the first matchup coming back on March 1 when the Blue Devils defeated the Spiders 11-7 on Richmond’s home field.

The matchup on Sunday will be in Durham.

This season Duke played seven teams that made the sixteen team field, and was 6-2 in those games, only facing Notre Dame twice. The two losses came to the Irish with the other at the hands of Syracuse in overtime back in March.

The Blue Devils defeated Virginia, Notre Dame, Loyola Maryland, Towson, the University of Pennsylvania, and Richmond.

Penn State earned the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament.

Duke will be looking for its fourth NCAA Championship and its first since 2014. The Blue Devils also won the title in 2010 and 2013, but lost in 2005, 2007, and last year in 2018.

In that 2018 title game, Duke fell to Yale, who is also back in the tournament as the No. 5 seed and will face Georgetown on Saturday afternoon.
