Duke Lacrosse: Blue Devils fall to Notre Dame in semis of ACC Tourney

The Duke Lacrosse team could not fully complete the comeback as the Blue Devils fell to Notre Dame in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament.

The Duke Lacrosse team fell to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament on Saturday afternoon by a score of 12-10.

The Blue Devils never held a lead in the game and trailed by as many as five goals midway through the third quarter and by four at the beginning of the fourth.

Notre Dame led 8-4 at halftime, but the Blue Devils were able to climb back into the game thanks to a 5-1 scoring run extending late into the fourth quarter.

Duke was able to cut its deficit to one goal with under three minutes to go in the fourth, but the Blue Devils could not get that elusive game tying goal as Notre Dame was able to net the dagger with 54 seconds remaining to ice the game.

CJ Carpenter led Duke with four goals on the afternoon, while Brad Smith, Joe RobertsonKevin Quigley, Nakeie Montgomery, Cameron Badour, and Walker Scaglione all scored one goal each.

Goalie Turner Uppgren was able to save 15 shots on the afternoon.

The Notre Dame attack was just too strong for the Blue Devils to match with Bryan Costabile‘s five goals to go along with two goals each from Connor Morin and Wheaton Jackoboice. Griffin Westlin and Brian Willetts both scored one goal for the Irish.

Notre Dame goaltender Matt Schmidt was sensational on the afternoon with 18 saves.

Duke fell to 11-4 on the season, while the Irish improved its record to 8-5.

The Irish will face the Virginia Cavaliers in the ACC Tournament Championship on May 4 while the Blue Devis will have to wait and find out its fate on Sunday, May 5, at 9:00pm ET when the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Bracket is revealed.
