The Duke Baseball team picked up a major win on Tuesday night against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, kicking off the most important week of the season.

The first game of a crucial four game stretch for the Duke Baseball team was a major success as the Blue Devils got a little revenge on the Texas Tech Red Raiders Tuesday night with a 13-6 victory in Durham.

The Red Raiders knocked the Blue Devils out of the NCAA Tournament last season in the Lubbock Super Regional to go to the College World Series.

However, the script was flipped on Tuesday as Duke grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first inning with two runs and never looked back.

Texas Tech would draw close with a run in the top of the second, but that’s as close as the Red Raiders would get all night.

Duke would score the next four runs of the game in the bottom of the third and fourth innings. Texas Tech would try to crawl back into the game in the top of the fifth with two runs, cutting the Blue Devils’ lead to 6-3.

The lead was doubled in the bottom of the seventh as Duke went ahead 9-3.

The Red Raiders were able to get one back in the top of the eight, but it wouldn’t go without a response from the Blue Devils as Duke put up a four-spot in the bottom half of the inning.

The game ended with two runs from Texas Tech in the ninth inning, ending in a 13-6 Duke win.

Adam Laskey started the game by going three innings, allowing three hits and just one earned run while walking three and striking out one.

Freshman Jack Carey replaced his fellow New Jersey native and Carey went two innings, scattering two hits, allowing two runs, but both were unearned. Carey walked one and fanned two.

Matt Dockman (3-1) was the winning pitcher after his two perfect inning in addition to two strikeouts.

Eli Herrick pitched the eighth inning allowing one hit, one run, two walks, and registering two strikeouts, while Aaron Beasley had the ninth inning, as he gave up three hits and two runs, one earned, in addition to a walk, but also struck out two.

Offensively, Duke was led by its captain Kennie Taylor and Chis Crabtree.

Crabtree was 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored while Taylor as 3-for-5 with three RBI and and two runs scored.

Chase Cheek and Ethan Murray also picked up an RBI a piece.

Eight of the nine Blue Devils in the starting lineup scored at least one run, while as a team, the Blue Devils totaled 14 hits on the evening.

According to the NCAA Division I Baseball rankings, Texas Tech was the No. 22 team in the country, but the road does not get any easier for the Blue Devils as Duke travels to Clemson to face the No. 24 Tigers this weekend for a three game series.
