Duke Basketball: Zion Williamson wins the John R. Wooden Award

There is another trophy coming to the Duke Basketball star freshman Zion Williamson as he is the recipient of the John R. Wooden Award.

The final and most prestigious National Player of the Year was given out at the College Basketball Awards on Friday night and who else would win the award other than Zion Williamson.

Williamson swept the majority of the National Player of the Year Awards including the Naismith Award and the AP Player of the Year Award, as well as winning the ACC Player and Freshman of the Year Award.

Zion Williamson was also a consensus First Team All-American selection.

To win the prestigious award, Williamson defeated Cassius Winston of Michigan State, Grant Williams of Tennessee, Ja Morant of Murray State, and his own teammate, R.J. Barrett.

The Spartanburg, South Carolina native shot a scorching 68.0% from the field and a consistently improving 33.8% 3-point range.

The 6-foot-7 freshman, 285 pound averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game.

While Zion Williamson is the overwhelming favorite to the the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, but the Blue Devils are still waiting for official word on what Williamson will decide to do.

Duke already had two freshman declare for the NBA Draft in R.J. Barrett and Cam Reddish, while Tre Jones will be coming back to Duke for his sophomore season.

Maria Taylor of ESPN tried to get Williamson to divulge his plans live on stage when he was presented with the Wooden and Karl Malone Awards, but he would not budge and kept his plans under wraps.

Zion Williamson do not have to rush his decision as the deadline for underclassmen to enter the NBA Draft is April 21 at 11:59pm ET.

Regardless of what his decision will be, Zion Williamson will be remembered as one of the best players to ever wear a Duke jersey.
