Duke Basketball: Shane Battier named to the College Basketball HOF

The former Duke Basketball superstar, Shane Battier, will be inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame this fall.

The long and historic career of Shane Battier will continue and forever be remembered in the College Basketball Hall of Fame.

Battier played four seasons at Duke and his records and accomplishments are unmatched.

His No. 31 hangs in the rafters in Cameron Indoor Stadium, never to be worn again by any Blue Devils.

Shane Battier’s best season came in 2001 which ended in a victory in the National Championship Game over the Arizona Wildcats.

In 2001, Battier averaged 19.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 2.1 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game, while shooting 47.1% from the field and 41.9% from 3-point range.

At the end of that season, Battier was named as the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four, the Naismith Player of the Year, the Associated Press College Player of the Year, the John R. Wooden Award, the Oscar Robertson and Adolph Rupp Trophy, and the Sporting News Player of the Year Award.

In addition to those awards, Battier was also a consensus First-Team All-American, the NABC Defensive Player of the Year, the ACC co-Player of the Year, and the Academic All-American of the Year.

Battier was also the NABC Defensive Player of the Year in the 1999 and 2000 seasons.

In his four seasons at Duke, Battier averaged 13.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game, shooting an unconscious 50.0% from the field and 41.6% from 3-point range.

Shane Battier will join Mike Krzyzewski, Christian Laettner, Grant Hill, and Jay Williams in the College Basketball Hall of Fame.

Joining Battier in the Class of 2019 is Indiana’s Calbert Cheaney, Purdue’s Terry Dischinger, Providence’s Ernie DiGregorio, UNLV’s Larry Johnson, Stanford’s Todd Lichti, and coaches Homer Drew from Valparaiso, Lute Olson of Long Beach State, Iowa, and Arizona, and Rick Majerus of Marquette, Ball State, Utah, and St. Louis.

The induction is set for November 24 in Kansas City, Missouri at the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.
