Duke Football: Daniel Jones’ stock improving after nearly perfect pro day
After a nearly perfect pro day, former Duke Football quarterback Daniel Jones is soaring up NFL Draft Boards and positioning himself to be a First Round pick.
Daniel Jones was back on the Duke campus on Tuesday afternoon for his pro day and 31 of 32 NFL teams flocked to Durham to see the potential first round pick in next month’s NFL Draft.
Jones, the MVP of the Reese Senior Bowl, put on a show for those in attendance, completing 61 of his 64 pass attempts, showing elite levels of accuracy, arm talent, and leadership.
The first 44 passes that Jones threw were all complete.
The only team that was not in Durham for Duke’s pro day was the Dallas Cowboys, but that did not stop arguably one of the franchises best quarterbacks from chiming in on how Jones looked in his session.
Not only was Daniel Jones impressive throwing the football, he was much improved in the 40-yard dash.
At the NFL Combine earlier this month in Indianapolis, Jones ran an unofficial 4.81 40-yard dash, but on Tuesday, Jones improved to an unofficial 4.67 on Tuesday.
The team that has seemed very interested on Jones is the New York Giants, and that shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise.
The Giants are set, for now, with Eli Manning at quarterback, but it’s almost like looking in a mirror with Jones and Manning.
The two were developed by the same college coach, David Cutcliffe, and Jones has worked out with Eli Manning at the Manning Passing Academy and when the Mannings would come down to Duke each offseason for a week with their wide receivers.
While being interviewed by NFL Network before Jones started his portion of the pro day, Cutcliffe was asked about the comparisons between Daniel Jones and Eli Manning by NFL Networks Daniel Jeremiah, and Cutcliffe said that Jones followed around Manning “like a mother goose.”
Next up for Jones is private meetings and workouts with teams, which will reportedly start on Thursday with the Giants, as SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano reports.
The Giants currently hold the No. 6 and No. 17 overall picks in the 2019 NFL Draft and the team has been linked with numerous quarterbacks in this draft, most notably Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins and Missouri’s Drew Lock.
The NFL Draft starts on Thursday, April 25, in Nashville, Tennessee.
