Duke Basketball: Commits and recruits shine in All-American Game

Future Duke Basketball players shined in the McDonald’s All-American Game on Wednesday night and still some potential recruits performed well also.

College basketball’s next best players took center stage on Wednesday night in Atlanta in the McDonald’s All-American Game.

While two Duke commits were selected to the game, only one future Blue Devil, Wendell Moore, played in the game.

One future Blue Devil, Boogie Ellis, was not named as a McDonald’s All-American.

Vernon Carey Jr. was selected as a McDonald’s All-American, but did not take part in the game or in practice during the week as he is recovering from an ankle injury.

Despite not playing in the All-American Game, Carey is still planning to play in the GEICO Nationals, where is school, University, will be competing starting on April 4.

Wendell Moore was perfect from the field, scoring 13 points, making all five of his shots, including one from 3-point range and nailing both of his free throw attempts in only 17 minutes of game action.

Moore was also able to dish out two assists and grab two steals in the East’s 115-100 victory over the West.

After the game last night, the No. 22 ranked player win the country by ESPN, Trendon Watford, named Duke in his Top-5 schools.

Watford filled the stat sheet with 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists, a block, and a steal, on four of six shooting in just 18 minutes of action.

On the other side, a potential Duke target Matthew Hurt only saw 16 minutes of action, and in those limited minutes was able to score eight points and grab five rebounds.

Hurt made four of his seven attempts, but missed both of his 3-point attempts.

Matthew Hurt plans to announce where he will be playing basketball next season on April 19. Hurt has cut his schools down to Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Kansas, while Trendon Watford plans to announce his decision on April 20 at the Jordan Brand Classic in Brooklyn, New York.
