A 2021 point guard who may reclassify to 2020 will once again be checking out the Duke basketball program on Saturday.

Expect a dual Cam sighting in Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday when the Duke basketball team plays Miami.

On Coach K Court, freshman Cam Reddish will be helping the No. 3 Blue Devils (24-4; 12-3 in ACC) to right the ship after losing two of their past three games. Behind the bench, high school sophomore Cam Hayes — according to Stock Risers’ Jake Weingarten, he is taking his second unofficial visit to Duke tomorrow — will likely be looking on while trying to envision himself in a Blue Devil jersey three years from now.

Or could it be two years from now?

There is talk that Hayes — 247Sports ranks him No. 21 in the 2021 class and Rivals ranks him No. 16 — is considering a reclassification to 2020. And the confidence and leadership the 6-foot-2, 175-pound playmaker displays on the court, along with the fact he has frequently taken unofficial visits to schools within driving distance in recent months, suggests he may indeed be planning to make the 2020-21 season his freshman season in college.

Hayes, who last week scored 17 points to help lead his Greensboro Day School to its third straight state title, has a smooth jumper, advanced handles, ideal quickness, and superb decision-making. Off the court, he is well-spoken and says all the things coaches want to hear — often expressing his disdain for turnovers.

Rapidly climbing the rankings over the past year, he seems well on his way to growing into the type of point guard any ACC program would treasure. Per Rivals, he already holds offers from N.C. State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and Clemson.

And it would be no surprise if a Duke offer is soon on its way. First-year Blue Devil assistant Chris Carrawell has been leading his recruitment.

The only 2021 prospect who currently holds a Duke offer is the No. 1 player in the class, five-star small forward Patrick Baldwin Jr.

If Hayes reclassifies, he could become the second true point guard in the 2020 class to receive a Duke offer, joining five-star Jeremy Roach.
