In the comeback victory over Louisville on Tuesday night, the Duke Basketball backup point guard, Jordan Goldwire, showed flashes of his potential of what could be in store for the sophomore.

Coming into this season, the hope for Jordan Goldwire was to be the serviceable back up point guard to Tre Jones.

Up until Tuesday night, Goldwire has not received a lot of minutes this season, partially due to the excellence of Jones and also due to the inconsistency in Goldwire’s game.

However, on Tuesday night in the final nine minutes against Louisville, Jordan Goldwire showed the potential he has for his remaining two and a half years he has at Duke.

Despite not scoring a single point against Louisville, Goldwire was aggressive, tenacious, and hounding on the defensive side of the ball , all the qualities a Duke point guard must have.

Without a doubt, Tuesday night was the best game of Jordan Goldwire’s Duke career and not only will it add to his confidence if he can sustain this type of defense for the remainder of the season, but it will help the Blue Devils as Coach K can turn to another player off the bench for some sustained minutes.

With a total of 13 points on the season, the Blue Devils will not rely on Jordan Goldwire for scoring, that is what R.J. Barrett, Zion Williamson, and Cam Reddish are on the court for.

Duke needs constant energy on the defensive end to jump start the whole team when the Blue Devils get in a scoring drought or the opposing team makes a run.

Jordan Goldwire may be emerging as the next great Duke point guard and if it is true, his coming out moment will be February 12, giving the Blue Devils energy off the bench in the final nine minutes to erase a 23 point deficit on the road against the No. 16 Louisville Cardinals.

Goldwire and the Blue Devils now return back to Durham for two games to face in-state rivals North Carolina State and North Carolina on Saturday and Wednesday, respectively.
