The thought of sitting courtside to watch Zion Williamson posterize Luke Maye already has the student portion of Duke basketball fans acting bonkers.

On the first day that students could start camping out for the UNC game in 2012, according to KvilleNation.com, a then-record 46 tents appeared on the Duke basketball program’s hallowed grounds of Krzyzewskiville.

Fast-forward to 2019.

At noon on Thursday, as reported via a tweet from K-ville Nation, 80 groups (max of 10 students per group) that desire to be first-day tenters signed up within the first four seconds of the opening of registration online.

“Dadgummit,” UNC coach Roy Williams, wherever he was at the time, probably said (though probably not actually in response to this news).

But not all groups that registered will actually have the chance to start camping out on the earliest date.

A K-ville bylaw allows for only 70 groups of tenters to stake a spot in line on Jan. 12 for the chance to freeze for 39 nights straight just to have the best seats to watch a two-hour basketball game on Feb. 20. (30 more tents can go up on Jan. 23 and a final 30 on Feb. 3.)

Since the number of groups to register far exceeded 70 — no word on the final count, yet it had to be well over 100 considering 80 did so in the time it takes to chant Go to hell, Carolina, go to hell! — this means that, according to another bylaw of the annual makeshift city’s constitution, a trivia test will decide both which groups get to be the earliest campers and what order their tents will be in line.

Where will the test take place?

Where else but inside Cameron Indoor Stadium, the location of Duke’s future attempt to better its 31-of-47 clip since 1999 against its rival from eight miles down Tobacco Road.

And what kinds of questions will be on the test that will be administered on Jan. 10 at 9 p.m.?

Questions about Duke basketball.

Duh.

More specifically, the questions will pertain to the Duke basketball team that currently sits atop the AP Top 25 and sports an 11-1 record entering ACC play, which begins at home against Clemson on Saturday at 8 p.m. (on ESPN).
