After that point, it was all Blue Devils.
Duke marched down the field and scored a touchdown with a minute to go in the first half to cut the Temple lead to 27-21 and then held the Owls in that final minute to head into halftime only down six points.
The Blue Devils then came out of the locker room with their hair on fire and outscored Temple 35-0 in the second half.
Duke was led by quarterback Daniel Jones in what was most likely his final game as a Duke Blue Devil.
Despite having one more season of eligibility, Jones is one of the top quarterbacks in this seasons NFL Draft.
Daniel Jones completed 30 of his 41 passes, one of those to himself, for 423 yards and five touchdowns, both were Walk-On’s Independence Bowl records. Jones also rushed for a touchdown during his historic day.
Jones also was awarded as the Walk-On’s Independence Bowl Offensive MVP.
Jones’ favorite target on the day was T.J. Rahming who caught 12 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns.
Chris Taylor, Jake Bobo, and Davis Koppenhaver were on the other ends of Jones’ touchdown passes while Brittain Brown and Quentin Harris rushed for touchdowns for the Blue Devils.
The victory gives Duke three straight bowl game victories and moves the Blue Devils to 8-5 on the season.
The Duke Football program will now wait and see if any other players declare for the NFL Draft and then the coaches will hit the recruiting trail prior to spring practices and into training camp.
The next football game for the Blue Devils will be on August 31, 2019 against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Atlanta, Georgia.
