The former Duke Basketball star and current NBA superstar Kyrie Irving is giving back to his community by hosting the ‘Kyrie Invitational’ on Monday.

Despite becoming a star at Duke and reaching the top of the NBA world, Kyrie Irving knows that making it to the top of the basketball world isn’t easy and he is giving back to where it all started for him on the basketball court.

Irving went to St. Patrick’s High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey and put the school on the map as a basketball powerhouse in throughout the country.

St. Patrick’s High School thrived due to the success of its boys basketball team but had to close briefly in June 2012, but reopened in September 2012 with a new name, The Patrick School.

In January, Kyrie Irving donated a new gym to his high school alma mater and now he’s going even bigger, hosting a private invitational for the inner city schools.

The invitational takes place on Monday afternoon and evening from Brooklyn, New York in the Barclays Center and will be named as the first annual ‘Kyrie Invitational’.

The slate of games will have three matchups starting at 4:00 pm ET as the Bishop Loughlin Girls Team will face the Murry Begtraum Girls.

Bishop Loughlin High School is located a stones throw away from the Barclay Center in Brooklyn while Murray Begtraum is located in New York City.

The next two games will feature boys high school basketball games as Our Savior Lutheran will face Roselle Catholic at approximately 6:30 pm ET, and the finale at about 9:00 pm ET will have Irving’s alma mater, The Patrick School, against Long Island Lutheran.

The boys games features two of New Jersey’s top teams in The Patrick School and Roselle Catholic against some of the New York’s top teams Our Savior Lutheran and Long Island Lutheran.

Irving’s Boston Celtics fell to the Detroit Pistons on Saturday evening and are not back in action until Wednesday night as they host the Phoenix Suns.

The Long Island Lutheran vs. The Patrick School game on Monday night can be seen in the New York area on the YES Network.
