8. A jolt from Javin

Opponent: Hartford

DeLaurier never misses a block party. Although the 6-foot-10 freak athlete may struggle with his skills on the offensive end of the floor — other than dunking in transition, of course, as seen in the previous slide — he knows how to fire up his team and a home crowd with just one high-flying swat.

In the closing minutes of the Blue Devils’ 84-54 win over Hartford on Dec. 5, Javin jolted out of nowhere to put an end to a fast-break opportunity by the Hawks. He blocked a layup attempt off the backboard/rim, which led to the ball falling into the hands of R.J. while Zion was booking it to the other end of the floor.

It’s no shock what came next.

R.J. tossed the rock ahead to Zion, who hammered it home with a half-tomahawk.

Needless to say, the Cameron Crazies were pleased with Duke’s ability to beautifully turn a transition chance from Hartford into a transition dunk of its own.

Although the Duke basketball Twitter account incorrectly put this play No. 1 on the video below — that spot belongs, as you’ll see, to the No. 2 play on the video, which is coming up in a future slide here — it was definitely a play worthy of not soon being forgotten.
