Duke Basketball has been without a true point guard since Tyus Jones and Quinn Cook left, but the Blue Devils have a role player on the bench who is looking to grow into a bigger role.

Entering his second season with the Blue Devils, Jordan Goldwire is ready to contribute more this year to another young Duke team with high aspirations.

As a freshman last season, it was a tough learning curve for Goldwire as he only managed to average 6.5 minutes per game, adding 1.0 points per game.

Goldwire didn’t seem ready for college basketball last season and almost could have benefitted from a redshirt season, but with Duke’s lack of depth at the guard position, he was always needed in case of an emergency.

As Goldwire continues to grow, there are Duke Basketball fans who are expecting big things from the Norcross, Georgia native.

With yet another high profile freshman stepping onto campus in Durham, Goldwire will most likely assume the backup point guard role on this years team with Tre Jones being the starting point guard.

One thing Duke has not had in a while is depth on the bench and with a young team of freshman who have not experienced the intensity of college basketball, Coach K will need the experienced players on the bench to come in and provide some big time minutes this season.

With a year under his belt, Goldwire will be ready to help contribute to Duke’s sixth National Championship if he is called upon.

Jordan Goldwire will look to get his season started in the right direction on November 6 as the Duke Blue Devils face the Kentucky Wildcats in the State Farm Champions Classic from Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana at approximately 9:30 pm ET.
