Duke Basketball: DeLaurier, White named Blue Devils captains
The Duke Basketball captains have been made for the 2018-19 season and they are who we expected.
Jack White and Javin DeLaurier have been named as the captains of the 2018-19 Duke Basketball team.
Both DeLaurier and White were the Blue Devils’ representatives at ACC Media Day last week along with Coach K, but having those two represent the team was a major hint that they could be named as the captains.

However, it does come as a bit of a surprise that these two were named captains as they do not have that much playing experience yet being a member of the Duke Basketball program for two seasons.
Over his two seasons at Duke, White has only averaged 1.1 points per game in 5.8 minutes of action, but he did receive more playing time in his freshman season than his sophomore campaign.
White is expected to be a contributor off the bench for the Blue Devils and his leadership has shined through this offseason, but now will be the time for White to step up with a team full of freshman that are expected to carry most of the load.
As for Javin DeLaurier, he has more experience than White in terms of playing time but it isn’t by much.
DeLaurier’s presence was much more prominent last season than in his freshman year as he was a fixture off the bench for the Blue Devils.
The Shipman, Virginia native has averaged 2.9 points per game over his two seasons in Durham, while averaging 3.4 points per game last season.
Although Coach K said at Duke Media day a couple weeks ago that if the season started that day DeLaurier would be a starter, it was Marques Bolden that got the starting nod in the first preseason game against Virginia Union.
Regardless if both players are in the starting lineup or not, the two should provide both energy and leadership off the bench for a very young team.
